Training Advisory Board

The Sugar Land Police Department maintains a Training Advisory Board that is tasked with furthering the education of the employees of the SLPD and other area law enforcement agencies to better serve our community and the public. In addition to our sworn staff, the Chief of Police has appointed two civilian members to the Board. Both graciously volunteer their time and have asked that their contact information be made readily available to the public should anyone wish to reach out to them in this role.

Both Mr. Baches and Mr. West have active ties to the City of Sugar Land and a vested interest in ensuring our Police Department remains at the forefront of law enforcement training. As members of the Board, their responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting training policies and procedures;
  • Advising on, identifying, and evaluating specific training priorities and needs;
  • Advising on the determination of the types, frequency, and location of courses to be offered;
  • Auditing coursework at random to ensure all standards are met;
  • Advising on the establishment of the standards for admission, prerequisites, minimum and maximum class size, attendance, and retention; and
  • Ensuring public feedback directed to them is properly reviewed and channeled to the Training Unit or Police Administration.
