Court Policies

The Sugar Land Municipal Court of Record adheres to the guidance and directives of the Texas Supreme Court and of any various Emergency Orders issued during any state of disaster.

The Municipal Court lobby and service windows are open during normal business hours to process individual transactions. All defendants are encouraged to utilize available online options to resolve matters.

It is important that the defendant and his or her attorney, if applicable, follow these policies. If these policies are not followed, it could result in the case being reset to a later date or the violator being held in contempt of court.

Policies

The following items are not allowed in Court:

  • Hats of any kind
  • Bare feet
  • Shorts, flip-flops, or sweatpants
  • Tank tops, halter tops, or t-shirts with inappropriate language
  • Food, drinks, or gum
  • All bags, purses, briefcases, backpacks, or similar items
  • Recording devices

phones, Food & drink, smoking, hats, cameras, recording, and bags are not allowed in court

Cell Phones & Other Electronic Devices

Any electronic device brought into the courtroom must be turned off or completely silenced.

Recording Proceedings

No person, other than the court reporter, may record a court proceeding without the court’s permission. This prohibition applies to all persons, including members of the public viewing court proceedings on any court’s live stream and to persons with the ability to record any virtual court proceeding. Any person found to violate this order faces contempt proceedings, including a fine of up to $100 and a sentence of confinement for up to three (3) days in jail for each act of contempt of court.
