Sugar Land, TX – Sugar Land is looking for volunteers interested in giving their time, energy and expertise to serve as members on the Independent Ethics Review Board; Sugar Land 4B Corporation; Parks, Art, Recreation, Culture and Streetscapes (PARCS) Board; Sugar Land Legacy Foundation; and the Imperial Redevelopment Board.
The deadline for application is Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. Applications can be found on the Boards and Commissions webpage at www.sugarlandtx.gov/130/Boards-Commissions. The groups provide valuable insight and advice on various issues and events.
The Independent Ethics Review Board reviews alleged violations to the Rules of Ethical Conduct applying to city officials such as City Council members and appointed board members.
The Sugar Land 4B Corporation is responsible for developing and preparing an Economic Development Plan that includes short-term and long-term objectives of the corporation and guidelines on the use of sales tax funds. These may include municipal facilities, parks, museums, stadiums, parking facilities and other facilities both private and public.
The PARCS Board advises on projects and programs to enhance the city's visual environment and supports long-term goals for parks, recreation, cultural activities, streetscapes, and urban forestry, promoting an inclusive and diverse community.
The Sugar Land Legacy Foundation promotes community investment in facilities and activities that enhance the long-term prosperity and quality of life within the city. It’s a private non-profit organization established to create a vehicle for sustainable charitable and planned donations for parks and civic facilities in Sugar Land.
The Imperial Redevelopment Board members govern the district and have the authority to act on issues of implementing or contracting with other entities to implement a Tax Increment Financing District Project Plan, developer requests for infrastructure reimbursement pursuant to statutes and agreements, issuing bonds to finance eligible project costs and establishing District ad valorem tax rates.
Boards and commissions are essential to the operation of city government. Service can be a rewarding and hands-on experience.
