Food establishments located within the City of Sugar Land obtain a permit and receive inspections from the Food Inspection Division of the Environmental & Neighborhood Services Department. Food Inspection staff are licensed by the State of Texas and inspect for compliance with the Texas Food Establishment Rules. Inspectors look for issues related to cleanliness, safe food handling practices, equipment functionality, and documentation requirements.
The City of Sugar Land does not score inspections based on a letter grade system. Instead, inspections are scored based on a 100-point scale.
Inspection requirements all fall into categories which have specific point valuations. Should an establishment fail to comply with a category, those points are lost.
Beginning in January 2019, inspection scores will be posted on this website each quarter. Establishments will receive a routine inspection at least twice a year.
