Telfair Drainage Improvements – New Territory Blvd. and Chatham Ave.

Update August 4

  • The detour has been removed and all lanes are open.

Update July 26 

  • A traffic switch will occur Thursday, July 28, 2022. The southbound through lane of Chatham Ave. at New Territory Blvd. will detour via right turn onto New Territory Blvd, then make a u-turn at the Homeward Way intersection and then right turn onto Chatham Ave. Detour signage will be posted.

Update July 18

  • Due to material shortages, the project has been delayed. Starting Tuesday, July 19, 2022 the currently closed westbound through lane of New Territory Blvd. at Chatham Ave. and left turn lane will open. The other westbound through lane of New Territory Blvd. and right turn lane will close until further notice.

Update July 7

  • Due to material shortages the project has been delayed. Eastbound lanes of New Territory Blvd. at Chatham Ave. have been opened. Starting Monday, July 11, 2022 a westbound through lane of New Territory Blvd. will close until further notice.

Update May 17

  • Starting Thursday, May 19, 2022, the eastbound right lane on New Territory Blvd. at Chatham Ave. will open. The eastbound left lane and westbound left turn lane on New Territory Blvd. will close until further notice.

Update May 12

  • The project is approximately 95% complete and is estimated to reach substantial completion in late June. A new storm sewer trunk line has been installed from the outfall into the LID #17 pond along Chatham Ave. up to New Territory Blvd. Pipe and storm inlet installation is currently ongoing in the intersection area. There will be traffic detours needed to facilitate work within the intersection.  

    Residents are asked to be mindful of work crews, expect traffic delays, and when possible, avoid the area to prevent traffic congestion. Visit its.sugarlandtx.gov for more information on Sugar Land travel time data.

Update May 9 

  • Staff was notified that traffic signal cables were damaged at the intersection of Chatham and New Territory while a contractor worked on the Telfair Drainage Improvements Project. The signal is currently in red flash mode until repairs are made. Crews are working to repair the signal as soon as possible, but until then residents are asked to treat the intersection as a four-way stop and be mindful of work crews. Update May 5

  • Starting Monday, May 9, 2022, an eastbound right lane will close on New Territory Blvd. at Chatham until further notice.

Update April 18

  • On April 21, 2022, Habersham Ave. will open and the current detour will be removed.

Update March 16

  • On March 22, 2022, Habersham Ave. at Chatham Ave. will close. Traffic will detour into the area via Ravenel Ln.

  • On March 16, 2022, Ravenel Ln. on the east side of Chatham will reopen to normal traffic.

Update Feb. 16

  • On Monday, Feb. 21, 2022 the current detour on Chatham Ave. will be removed and normal two-way traffic will resume. Ravenel Ln. on the east side of Chatham Ave will close. Traffic into the area will detour via Habersham Ave.

  • The current northbound Chatham Ave. detour will remain in place until further notice.

A new storm sewer trunk line will be constructed under the east side of Chatham Ave. to improve drainage. Work will begin December 20, 2021 and is anticipated to be completed in May 2022. For the first two weeks of the project, northbound Chatham Ave. traffic will be detoured via Hathaway Ln. to Asbury Ln. to Ravenal Ln. back to Chatham Ave.
