Sugar Land’s Memorial Day Ceremony to Salute Fallen Soldiers

Sugar Land, TX Sugar Land will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30, at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd., to commemorate those who died in active military service.  Admission is free and open to the public.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. The Patriotic Brass Band will perform a musical tribute, and the Sixth Cavalry Historical Association will host a vehicle exhibition.  

Other vendors and community organizations will include the Exchange Club of Sugar Land, Fort Bend Voters League, Sugar Land Citizen’s Fire Academy Alumni Association, Sugar Land Rotary, Houston West Vet Center and Christus Health Plan.

A formal tribute with words of remembrance by local dignitaries will follow at 11 a.m.   The ceremony presenter and emcee will be retired Brig. Gen.  Dave Van Kleeck, and retired Master Sgt. Celso Pacheco, Jr. is scheduled as the keynote speaker.

The program will continue the community tradition of acknowledging the names of veterans engraved inside the walls of the park’s iconic Remembrance Tower. The Houston Commemorative Air Force will conduct a military flyover, and there will be a 21-gun salute.  The ceremony will close with a traditional flag observance led by a local Boy Scout troop at noon. 

There will also be a creative station for children’s patriotic crafts, as well as food trucks and a lemonade stand with items available for purchase. Limited handicap and public parking will be available onsite. Attendees are strongly encouraged to use parking and shuttle services available at Brazos River Park. Complimentary shuttle services will run continuously from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
