[ARCHIVED] Sugar Land to Host Senior Center Needs Study Open House

Sugar Land, TX – The city of Sugar Land Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the community to make their voice heard for the Senior Center Needs Study at a public input open house on Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 6-8 p.m., at Sugar Land City Hall, 2700 Town Center Blvd. North.

Membership numbers of the T.E. Harman Center, the city’s recreation center for senior adults, have increased 300 percent since the center’s relocation in 2011. The study focuses on determining the needs and wants of the community in order to appropriately develop a plan for an expanded or future senior center to meet those needs. The Senior Center Needs study was a recommendation from the 2018 Parks and Open Space Master Plan due to the growth of senior programs.

During the month of July, the city posted an online survey specific to the Senior Center Needs Study and received hundreds of responses.

“This open house will be a great opportunity to get valuable input from our community,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Joe Chesser. “We want to hear from everyone even if you’re not a senior yet or aren’t familiar with our senior programs. Everyone is welcome to participate and let us know what they’re looking for in a future senior center.”

In order to allow everyone an opportunity to participate, information shared at the open house will be available the following day at www.sugarlandtx.gov/SeniorCenterStudy. Project updates will also be provided on the website as it progresses.

For more information about the upcoming open house, contact the Sugar Land Parks and Recreation Department at (281) 275-2900, visit www.sugarlandtx.gov/SeniorCenterStudy or follow Sugar Land Parks and Recreation at facebook.com/SugarLandParks.
