The Legal & Governmental Services Department houses the offices of the City Attorney, City Secretary, and Prosecutors.
The City Attorney's Office provides legal services to the City Council, boards and commissions, management, and employees that:
- Are timely;
- Are understandable and accessible to the client;
- Achieve the City’s goals within the boundaries of the law;
- Are based on the office's independent judgment of the law; and
- Protect the legal interests of the City as a municipal corporation.
The City Attorney's Office does not provide legal advice to the public.
The City Secretary's Office records, certifies, preserves, manages, and makes accessible sufficient information in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations to ensure continuity in government.
The Prosecutor's Office prosecutes Traffic, Code Enforcement, Animal Control, and Class C Misdemeanors. The city's prosecutors are located at the Municipal Court.
