The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council 2020 Yearbook
The mission of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is to empower youth to become active members in their community by providing students with an overview of the complexity of local government and the opportunities they have to impact the future of Sugar Land through public service.
Throughout the past year, MYAC members participated in team-building exercises, fun and educational activities, toured city facilities, and learned how Sugar Land’s government functions. Through continued conversations with Mayor Zimmerman, students gained an insightful understanding of the City’s Council-Manager form of government and that policy guidance is set by the Mayor and City Council, while the day-to-day operational management is the responsibility of the City Manager and staff.
The class began with an Induction Ceremony in November and concludes with a City Council Recognition on August 18, 2020. The MYAC Class of 2020 represents the fifteenth year of the program. This year’s class was comprised of 33 high school juniors representing ten area high schools.
Congratulations Class of 2020!
