View a site has been chosen in sugar land to build a minor league baseball stadium, but the name of the club that will play in it is still up in the air. Last week, city officials announced that the stadium will be built on a vacant tract at the northeast corner of texas 6 and u.s. 90a, just west of the old imperial sugar refinery. The city decided on that property, which is owned by the texas general land office, after concluding it wouldn't harm the quality of life in surrounding neighborhoods in terms of noise, lighting, traffic and public safety.

For years the city's founders -- city leaders of sugar land have gotten tired of watching all their entertainment dollars go up to the city of houston. This is mostly a bedroom community. Now they think they have a way to reverse that flow. They're going to try to bring minor leg baseball to sugar land. Last night they made it official, they will enter a partnership with a pennsylvania-based company to build a 30 million-dollar stadium and entertainment complex. View houston the sugar land city council voted to approve a formal agreement to work with a company to design a $30 million ballpark for a future minor league baseball team. The money would come from sales taxes, hotel taxes, and ticket and parking taxes. The city is working with a group called opening day partners and they are expected to throw in $5 million.
The ballpark would be part of larger entertainment district. While the exact location has yet to be decided, a field near highway 59 and university boulevard continues to be looked at closely. Unlike the corpus christi hooks, the sugar land team would not be affiliated with any major league team. It would play in an independent league.
