Water Production and Treatment

City and contract crews are responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair water plants, water wells, ground storage tanks, elevated storage tanks and high service booster pumps. Water is pumped from underground aquifers, (Chico, Evangeline, and Jasper) treated with chlorine for disinfectant, phosphate for corrosion control and fluoride for the prevention of tooth decay; stored in above ground tanks, and then pumped into the distribution system on demand. The crews are responsible for seeing that all water wells, high service booster pumps, and monitoring devices are running efficiently to provide a safe, potable water supply to our customers. Personnel are available 24 hour a day to respond to all requests both emergency and routine. Preventive maintenance programs have been developed to ensure a quality product is produced and an adequate supply is available for fire protection and other emergencies.
