Strong Arm Robbery

SUGAR LAND POLICE NEEDS YOUR HELP

Sugar Land Police is looking for a man who on June 16 assaulted a woman while stealing her purse inside the woman's garage located in the 100 block of Bradford Circle in the Commonwealth Subdivision.

Responding at 6:30 p.m., police officers learned from the 49-year-old victim she had just gotten out of her vehicle after driving inside the garage, shut the car door, set the alarm, and when she turned around, she saw a man standing inside her garage.  The man grabbed her purse and when she began to struggle with him, he struck her in the mouth with his fist, causing a laceration to her lip.  The robber then snatched her purse and fled down the driveway.

The suspect remains at-large.  He is described as a clean-shaven African American male, approximately 5'7" tall with a slender build. It is likely the suspect may have followed the victim home from her place of business located in Houston.

Anyone with any information about this case should contact Sugar Land Police Detective Glenn White at 281-275-2544 or Fort Bend CrimeStoppers at 281-342-TIPS(8477).

If you believe someone is driving behind you in an attempt to know your whereabouts, the Sugar Land Police Department provides the following prevention tips:

  • Frequently check your rearview mirror to see if you are being followed.  If you are being followed, DO NOT drive home.  Instead drive to the nearest police station, fire station or other place of safety.
  • If you believe you are being followed but are unsure, make three consecutive left hand or right hand turns.  If you are still being followed, DO NOT drive home.
  • Remember it is important to know where you are so police officers can respond if needed.  Know your direction of travel.
  •  If you have a cellular phone, call 9-1-1. Try to get a good description of the vehicle that is following you including the vehicle's make, color and license plate number if possible.
  •  Do not try to be a hero.  Don't take any action that would jeopardize your own safety.
