City of Sugar Land

Radio System

The Sugar Land Police Department operates Motorola Radios on the 800 Trunking System. This radio system is co-owned by the Sugar Land and Missouri City Police Departments. The transmitting tower is physically located in Missouri City. The radio system operates via radio waves to the main tower in Missouri City. Sugar Land is currently exploring the possibilities of going to a wide area network which someday may be a state wide system where an officer from Sugar Land can be anywhere in the state and communicate with the Police Department. The Radio System allows voice contact with public safety agencies in neighboring communities and counties as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety and Fort Bend area emergency medical services. Mobile Computing Devices were added to the radio system in 2002 enhancing communications between the dispatch center and police/fire field units.
