About Fire Chief Juan Adame
Juan J. Adame joined the Sugar Land Fire Department in April 2009, and City Manager Allen Bogard appointed him as the permanent Fire Chief in November 2010.

Prior to serving as fire protection inspector for Naval Station Ingleside in Corpus Christi since 2008, Adame was a fire chief for 20 years, most recently with the city of Austin where he led a department of 1,100 uniformed and civilian personnel and managed a budget of $116 million. He served as the City of Corpus Christi’s fire chief from 1988 to 2006 and was also responsible for emergency management operations and homeland security grant funding.

His accomplishments have included:
  • A partnership with Del Mar College for a public/private Fire Training Academy
  • Implementation of CCFD’s first diversity training program, as well as programs on sexual harassment and violence in the workplace
  • Organization of the Corpus Christi / Nueces County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) into a fully functional, privately funded and nationally recognized organization

During his career, Adame rose through the ranks as a fire fighter and emergency medical technician.

Adame was appointed by Governor Rick Perry as the assistant presiding officer for the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and is a past president of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association. He was also a member of the Texas Task Force One Advisory Board and a member of the Governor’s Homeland Security Council and First Responder Advisory Committee.

He holds a bachelor and master’s degree from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, as well as certifications including Master Fire Fighter, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector, Arson Investigator and Instructor. Adame has an advanced certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education and is a certified basic Emergency Medical Technician.

He has been an adjunct instructor with the Texas Engineering Extension Service teaching Fire Officer I and II classes.

As a member of the U.S. Navy from 1967 through 1997, Adame served tours in Vietnam and was deployed to the Middle East as part of Operation Desert Storm. He retired as a chief warrant officer 4.
