Fire fighting has become a highly advanced science, but it’s still a profession for just the bravest among us. In truth, there is much, much more to the Sugar Land Fire department than fighting fires. Like training for terrorism events, emergency medical care, and providing smoke alarms for our citizens in need.
The Citizens' Fire Academy has a limited enrollment. You'll put on protective fire fighting gear, learn about fire strategy and tactics, and practice the basics of life saving.
Have you ever wondered what the Sugar Land Fire Department is all about? Have you ever asked yourself, "why do fire fighters do the things they do, and take the risks they take?" Did you ever question how you would react in an emergency situation? Are you sure your smoke alarms are in the right location? Can you choose and use the right fire extinguisher? If a family member had a heart attack in your home, could you help them?
Every year, hundreds of school children visit the Sugar Land Fire Department and ask many of these questions. Often times, the adults who accompany them state that they wish they knew more about fire fighting and safety. The members of the Sugar Land Fire Department feel it’s time to better inform the citizens of Sugar Land about the workings of the department.
*The only requirements are that you must commit to attending this nine-week program, you must be at least 18-years-old and either live or work in Sugar Land or within the City's Extra Territorial Jurisdiction.
This program is provided by the Sugar Land Fire Department.
