Arraignment
About the Arraignment
The first appearance in court in response to receiving a ticket is for purposes of arraignment. This is a formal process by which the defendant is advised of their rights along with other information concerning options that may be available to them. Defendants will be given notice of the charges that have been filed against them and then a plea will be entered on each case. The plea will determine what further action may be taken.

If a defendant wishes to pay the fine or request permission to take a driving safety course and he is eligible, he may appear on or before his court date, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sugar Land Municipal Court and the paperwork will be processed at the clerk's window.

Defendants 16 years of age or younger must make a formal court appearance in front of a judge with a parent or legal guardian.
