Cultural Arts Initiatives
Cultural Arts Strategic Plan & Implementation Guide
Adopted in 2014, the Cultural Arts Strategic Plan and Implementation Guide launches a process to ensure sustainability and vitality of the city’s cultural offerings.

Process and Goals
A comprehensive approach to supporting the arts throughout the community now and in the future was developed along with an action plan and schedule. The process for developing the strategic plan and implementation guide was public and participative, and built upon the City’s existing vision. The overall goal is to ensure that by making use of existing, as well as new public and private resources, the City and community partners will be able to collaborate on flexible initiatives to implement the recommended strategies and enhance cultural arts within Sugar Land.

Public Art Plan
Currently in the planning stages, the Public Art Plan seeks to develop a comprehensive, multi-year public art plan and implementation guide.

It is intended that this plan and guide will further define the City’s vision for public art in accordance with previously adopted policy documents and outline efforts to achieve the City’s vision over the next five years.

Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 Study
During 2016, Sugar Land is participating in the Americans for the Arts’ national survey, Arts & Economic Prosperity 5. This research study measures the economic impact of nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and their audiences within a given region or city. Sugar Land is one of 330 study partners across all regions of the United States. The findings will be available in 2017.

Art in Public Spaces
Art in Public Spaces aims to make art available on a rotational basis in public spaces including the Imperial Park Recreation Center and the historic Sugar Land Auditorium. This program is available to local art groups, artists, students, and others that meet specific guidelines. From time to time, additional locations are available throughout the City for display and public viewing.
