Fire Chief Dannie C. Smith

Fire Chief Dannie C. Smith is responsible for all Fire Department operations to include Emergency Services, Fire Marshal's Office, Public Education & Community Outreach and Emergency Management.

Since Chief Smith has come on board, he has managed:

  • The Insurance Service Organization rating improvement for the City of Sugar Land from a 3 rating to a 2.
  • Opening of Fire Station Six.
  • Working with surrounding communities to create the Eastside Fort Bend County Hazardous Materials Response Team.
  • Implemented City-wide Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate program.
  • Reduced overtime costs.
  • Managed numerous policy and management projects assigned to the department.
  • Conducted a strategic fire station location plan for community.

Chief Smith has more than 24 years in the fire service. Twenty-one of those years with the City of Houston where he directed several divisions: Fleet, Professional Development and Special Operations. He holds a bachelors degree in business administration from Le Tourneau University.

He is involved in numerous diverse organizations and holds (or has held) various roles as a member, committee member, president, second vice president or director. These organizations include(d): International Association of Fire Chiefs, Texas Fire Chief’s Association, Black Chief Officers Committee, National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program, Texas A&M Fire School, Houston Community College Fire Protection Technology Program, Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute, Mayors Task Force on Terrorism, National Forum for Black Public Administers, Pecan Bend Homeowner Association, Houston Black Professional Fire Fighter Association, Church Without Walls Deacons Family Life Ministry and many others.

Smith is a native Texan, born and raised in Houston. He and his family currently reside in Fort Bend County.
