Fire Marshal
Assistant Chief Gerald L. Cullar serves as Sugar Land's Fire Marshal, which includes fire inspection and arson investigation.
Fire Marshal Cullar began his career in the Sugar Land Volunteer Fire Department in 1976 and was hired full time in 1980. He has served in the roles of Lieutenant, Captain, Training Officer, Emergency Management Coordinator and Interim Chief. He is a certified firefighter, arson investigator, peace officer, inspector, and fire instructor.
Cullar attended Dulles High School, WCJC, HCC and Texas A&M fire school receiving fire and peace officer certifications. He served in the United States Army and is a Viet Nam war veteran. Cullar and his wife, Karen live in Sugar Land and have three sons and two grandchildren.
Other employees of the Fire Marshal's Office include Assistant Fire Marshal Ronnie Matthiesen, Inspector/Investigator James Serrano, Inspector/Investigator Mike Kugler, Inspector Brad Easley. and Administrative Secretary Christina Vavrecka.
