Mixed Use Conservation District

(updated December 2006)

In the summer of 2006, Planning staff assembled an inventory of residential structures located in the Mixed Use Conservation (MUC) district.  We subsequently studied this inventory in an effort to identify patterns in site development and similarities in construction style.  We found more common characteristics than we originally thought we would.

In the beginning of 2007, we would like to show residents what we found.  Our goal is to present options to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council for possibly making changes to the district.  Our study will culminate in a list of options for establishing more predictable regulations for the district.  However, the district regulations will not change without first receiving direction from the City Council to proceed.  We would then hold public hearings at Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council meetings.

The next step before any of that occurs is to work with residents to prepare the list of options for potentially making changes to the district.  We have reserved the North Room at the City of Sugar Land Community Center at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2007.  At that meeting, we will present our findings to residents in order to set a deadline for their input.  If additional meetings are necessary, this can be discussed as well.

In the near future, updates will be given to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council.  These will be informational workshops to let the two groups know what has been done to date.  Action items will not be scheduled until we have met with residents and received all additional input.  If we receive any direction from the Commission or Council during these workshops, residents will be informed.
