Paint

Residents should take household quantities of latex and oil-based paint to the Fort Bend County Recycling Center for safe disposal. Avoid having to dispose of paint by buying only what you need.

Latex paint can be thrown away with your household trash once it is completely dried up. Place the paint can by your trash with the lid off. An easy way to dry up the latex paint is by stirring kitty litter into the paint can and placing the can in a well ventilated area for 24-48 hours.

Paint Cans

Remove the lids from empty latex paint cans and allow any residue to dry out. Afterwards you can put the can and lid in the trash separately. DO NOT put paint cans or lids in your recycling bin.

Residents should bring household quantities of latex and oil paints to the Fort Bend County Recycling Center for safe disposal.

Paint Thinner

Residents should take household quantities of paint thinner and other solvents to the Fort Bend County Recycling Center for safe disposal. Avoid having to dispose of paint thinner by buying only what you need.

Paper

Residents can recycle newspapers, magazines, catalogs, home office paper, colored paper, pamplets, brochures, greeting cards, wrapping paper, envelopes and junk mail by putting them in the recycling bin or you can recycle them at the recycling centers located at 111 Gillingham Lane or 4802 Scenic Rivers Drive.

Tissue, facial or toilet tissue, paper towels or napkins, or any wet or food-stained paper cannot be recycled.

Abitibi's Paper Retriever Program promotes recycling by placing distinctive green and yellow paper retriever bins in highly visible areas at schools, churches and other non-profit organizations. They accept newspapers, magazines and catalogs, office/school paper, mail, phone books and soft cover books.

Paperboard

Residents can recycle paperboard or boxboard, the paper used to make cereal boxes, soda cartons, shoe boxes and similar boxes. Paperboard can be placed in your recycling bin or you can recycle them at the recycling centers located at 111 Gillingham Lane or 4802 Scenic Rivers Drive.

Pesticides

Residents should take household quantities of pesticides to the Fort Bend County Recycling Center for safe disposal. Empty containers cannot be recycled and should be put in your trash. Avoid having to dispose of pesticides by buying only what you need.

Phone Books

Phone books can be placed in your recycling bin or you can recycle them at the recycling centers located at 111 Gillingham Lane or 4802 Scenic Rivers Drive.

Photographic Chemicals

Pizza Boxes

Residents cannot recycle pizza boxes due to food and grease contamination or you can cut or tear out the soiled portions of your pizza boxes and trash them. For example, you can tear the top of the box off, recycle that and throw away the bottom part containing the grease. If the entire box is grease-free, the whole box can be recycled.

Plastic

If the bottles are made from #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #7 plastic, can be recycled in the recycling bin or recycle them at the recycling center located at 111 Gillingham Lane.

(Recycling numbers are usually located on the bottom or the side of an item.)

Note: If the bottle contained motor oil, pesticides, herbicides, adhesives, paints or solvents, it cannot be recycled no matter what type of plastic it was made from.

Plastic Bags

Plastic Bottles

Empty bottles made from #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #7 plastic, can be recycled in your recycling bin or at the recycling center located at 111 Gillingham Lane.

Motor oil bottles, pesticide bottles, herbicide bottles, and glue and other adhesive bottles cannot be recycled no matter what type of plastic they are made from.

Plastic Utensils

Plastc Utensils made from #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #7 plastic, can be recycled in your recycling bin or at the recycling center located at 111 Gillingham Lane.

Plastic Wrap

Residents cannot recycle plastic wrap at the curb; please put it in your trash.

Pool Chemicals

Residents should take household quantities of pool chemicals to the Fort Bend County Recycling Center for safe disposal. Avoid having to dispose of pool chemicals by buying only what you need.

Never put pool chemicals in your trash. Many pool chemicals give off fumes that can be harmful to collection workers.

Posters

Residents can recycle posters by putting them by putting them in the recycling bin or you can recycle them at the recycling centers located at 111 Gillingham Lane or 4802 Scenic Rivers Drive.

"Post-it" Notes

Residents can recycle "Post-it" notes by putting them in the recycling bin or you can recycle them at the recycling centers located at 111 Gillingham Lane or 4802 Scenic Rivers Drive.

Product Samples

Residents cannot recycle product samples at the curb. Please put them in your trash.

Don't dump it! - Never put anything into a storm drain! If you have usable leftover items, share them with family or neighbors. Used oil, old paint and other household chemicals may not be placed in your trash for collection.
