Household Hazardous Waste

Many consumer products contain chemicals that may be hazardous to human health or the environment if improperly used, stored or disposed. These chemicals become hazardous wastes when they are no longer wantedor needed as household products. Unfortunately, household chemicals are frequently washed down drains, poured on the ground outside or hidden in the trash, where they ultimately pose risks to human health or the environment.

Improperly disposing of household chemicals in the trash may start fires, explode or react in the trash collection trucks, often injuring workers. Because of this potential danger, household chemicals will not be collected with Sugar Land's residential solid waste collection. Some household products like lead-acid batteries, motor oil and paints can be recycled locally. For more information, please call the Solid Waste Coordinator at 281-275-2450.
