Code Enforcement
Purpose: The code enforcement division protects the health, safety, and welfare of Sugar Land residents through the reasonable enforcement of Sugar Land codes and ordinances.
Overview: Code Enforcement enforces various codes of the City of Sugar Land, including the development code and code of ordinances,through proactive enforcement and responding to calls from citizens. Code Enforcement Staff also works with citizens, property owners, HOA's and businesses to achieve and maintain compliance.
Hours: Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm
Food Inspections
Purpose: To provide for the health and safety of Sugar Land residents by ensuring that food establishments comply with code.
Overview: The Food Inspection Division is responsible for inspecting all food establishments including temporary food service events, grocery stores, and restaurants. They also review plans of new or remodeled food establishments to ensure compliance with health and safety codes and issue food and beverage distribution permits. The division is also responsible for investigating complaints made by residents in regard to restaurants or other food establishments.

CDBG Program
Purpose: To develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities principally for low and moderate income persons. The City of Sugar Land began receiving CDBG funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2001 and has received these program allocations each subsequent year. The projects funded through the CDBG program benefit low and moderate income residents and focus on infrastructure, public services, and housing projects throughout the community.
Rental License Program
Purpose: This is a proactive initiative to preserve and improve rental properties, and as a result, our vital neighborhoods.
Overview: The Residential Rental Property License Program is a two-part process that requires the owner of any rental property to obtain a License annually as well as receive interior and exterior inspections. Each unit will have an exterior inspection annually and will have an internal inspection when: There is a change in occupancy; An inspector notes an exterior code violation that indicates a potential critical or life safety violation; or as requested by the occupant. Rental property owners are encouraged to obtain their license as soon as possible. New water service will not be provided to rental properties without a license and there will also be a maximum fine of $500 per day for renting a house without a license.
