Recommended Action

Approve Resolution No. 09-44 casting 130 votes in the election of five directors of the Fort Bend Central Appraisal District Board for the 2010-2011 term of office.

Executive Summary

On October 29, 2009, the City received the 2010-2011 election ballot for the Fort Bend Central Appraisal District Board of Directors from the Chief Appraiser.  This action is a requirement by law under Section 6.03 of the Texas Property Tax Code.  Taxing units that participate in the CAD will elect five directors to serve a two-year term.

 

There are seven candidates on the ballot.  Council will have the opportunity to cast its 130 votes for one or more candidates. The voting deadline is December 15, 2009.

There a total of 5,000 votes. Votes are determined based on a percentage of the amount of taxes levied in the appraisal district.  The taxing entities with the largest number of votes are Fort Bend Independent School District with 1,431 votes, Fort Bend County with 913 votes and Lamar Consolidated Independent School District with 628 votes. The conservation districts (MUDs and LIDs) have 1,014 cumulative votes to cast.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUGAR LAND, TEXAS, CASTING ONE HUNDRED THIRTY (130) VOTES IN THE ELECTION OF FIVE DIRECTORS OF THE FORT BEND COUNTY CENTRAL APPRAISAL DISTRICT FOR THE 2010-2011 TERM.

 

WHEREAS, the City Council is entitled to one hundred thirty  (130) votes in the election of five members to serve on the Board of Directors of the Fort Bend County Central Appraisal District for the 2010-2011 term; and

 

WHEREAS, the following candidates have been nominated by the participating tax entities:
