Recommended action

Approve second reading of Ordinance 1765 amending Chapter 2 of the code of ordinances by adding a fee for notices on the municipal channel’s community events bulletin board.

Executive Summary

At the October 27th City Council workshop, staff presented two options for public use of SLtv16.  City Council directed staff to amend the current policy to allow governmental agencies and property associations to publicize meeting and event notices on the SLtv16 Bulletin Board along with an assessed fee of $25 per notice.  City Council also directed staff to further define a process to allow non-profit groups to post meeting and event notices on SLtv16, which will be presented to the City Council within 60 days.

In accordance with the amended policy, which will also be considered by the City Council on November 17, 2009, submitted content will be reviewed to ensure it meets criteria specified in the amended policy.  An administrative fee of $25, which must be established by ordinance, will then be assessed for each meeting and event notice submitted by qualifying groups.

Accordingly, Communications staff requests the City Council approve the second reading of Ordinance No. 1765 to amend the code of ordinances and add a fee for notices on the municipal channel’s community events bulletin board.  If approved, the Communications Department will immediately begin accepting and reviewing requests from approved entities.
