Present Proclamation for National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week November 1st – 7th.

Executive Summary

In 1996, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) launched National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week based on an idea from the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln, Nebraska. This campaign was designed to acknowledge and promote the invaluable role that shelters play in their communities and to increase public awareness of animal welfare issues and shelter services.

November 1st – 7th marks National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, an event sponsored by HSUS to recognize and celebrate the lifesaving services provided by animal shelters.  Animal shelters serve their communities in many ways: controlling stray dogs running at large, responding to calls for assistance from the public, helping families find a new animal companion, rescuing injured animals, and returning lost animals to their owners.
