Review and discuss the Mayor’s Fitness Council Program |
Executive Summary |
Mayor Thompson has been approached by an enthusiastic group of residents who would like to see the City of Sugar Land participate in the statewide Fit City Program. The program originated in Austin, TX when the Mayor Will Wynn found his city’s fitness ranking relatively low. The program has been replicated in several communities in Texas including Abilene, Longview, and Houston. The 81st legislature allocated $800,000 for the biennium to provide grants to local mayors’ councils for the development and implementation of fitness programs in communities across the state. The purpose of this workshop is to review and discuss the program with the City Council. |
