Recommended Action

Approve contract in the amount of $79,860.00 with Fugro Consultants, Inc. for the materials testing on the Recreation Center.

Executive Summary

Fugro Consultants, Inc. will provide standard quality control materials testing services during the construction of the Recreation Center. This will ensure that the construction materials incorporated into the project meet specifications of all designers. All test results and recommendations will be submitted in detailed written reports. Services as described in the proposal are:

 

  • Proof-rolling and subgrade preparations for building pad and parking lots
  • Observation of backfill placement for building pad and parking lot
  • Observation of chemical treatment of the paving subgrade and field testing
  • Density testing of the backfill material
  • Observation of utility installation
  • Observation of reinforcement steel placement
  • Field testing of concrete and sampling for laboratory compressive strength testing
  • Random sampling of mortar, grout, and masonry prisms for laboratory testing
  • Field density testing of asphalt and sampling for laboratory physical properties
  • Observations of any necessary welding and bolting operations by a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Observations for the Auger Cast-In-Place (ACIP) pile installations
  • Issuance of final letters covering specific testing materials requested by the City of Sugar Land Code Enforcement Group

 

There is a budget of $111,360 for construction phase services within the funds budgeted for project No. PK0403 (Recreation Center). Staff recommends authorization of this contract with Fugro Consultants, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $79,860.00.
