Summary |
||||
|
For the third year in a row, The Wall Street Journal teamed up with Winning Workplaces, a nonprofit that helps small and midsize companies create better work environments, to identify 15 small employers who have built some of the most exemplary, innovative workplaces. One of the companies recognized by The Wall Street Journal was Heavy Construction Systems Specialist, a software developer better known as HCSS. The City of Sugar Land was successful in attracting HCSS to Sugar Land through an incentive agreement in August 2008. Recently, HCSS moved into their newly constructed Sugar Land Headquarters which was designed to incorporate a robust wellness program into the facilities. Their new headquarters includes a one-third mile crushed granite jogging trail, exercise room, game room, gym with a basketball court and putting green. The company also pays fitness and wellness trainers to counsel employees on nutrition and exercise and offers on-site yoga, pilates and exercise classes as well as Nintendo Wii game systems to borrow and take home. Beyond wellness, HCSS occasionally brings in experts to teach employees important life skills, such as personal finance and public speaking. Mike Rydin, President of HCSS, states, “We’re just trying to make the ideal life for our employees.” Mike Rydin, President; Tom Webb, Vice President of Technical Services; and, Steve McGough, Chief Operating Officer will be present to represent HCSS. |
