Recognize the recent environmental awards given to the City by Keep Texas Beautiful and H-GAC.

Executive Summary

The City of Sugar Land recently received two awards for a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Keep Texas Beautiful 2009 Government Project Award

The honor recognizes the efforts of Sugar Land to enhance their community and protect the Texas environment. The Government Project Award is one of nine categories in the Keep Texas Beautiful Awards and recognizes outstanding contributions by government entities supporting the mission of Keep Texas Beautiful in their local communities.

Each year, Keep Texas Beautiful acknowledges deserving senior citizens, community groups, individuals, civic organizations, media, government entities and law enforcement officials for their commitment to litter prevention and cleanup, illegal dumping enforcement, education and publicity of environmental issues and community beautification. The City’s entry focused on the first annual Environmental Week activities that occurred in April 2008 and on the City’s continued partnership with Keep Sugar Land Beautiful.

H-GAC 2009 Clean Air Champion Award

The Clean Air Champion Award recognizes companies, organizations, local governments and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in implementing voluntary measures that help clean the air we breathe, improve our region’s mobility, and positively affect the quality of life of employees and commuters throughout the eight-county Houston-Galveston area. Many companies and local governments were honored for their ongoing commitment to provide outstanding transportation benefits to their employees for using commute alternatives and those companies and local governments that have adopted clean fleet policies.

A total of 45 Houston-Galveston area companies, local governments and individuals were recognized by H-GAC, of which only three local cities were included:  City of Houston, Village of Surfside, and the City of Sugar Land.
