Executive Summary |
||||
|
To meet our mandated reduction in groundwater reliance, the City signed an option water contract with Gulf Coast Water Authority (GCWA) in 1997 for 20 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to be supplied from GCWA’s canal system. The City also has a water supply agreement with Fort Bend County Water Control and Improvement District #1 (WCID #1) for approximately 15 million gallons per day from Oyster Creek. Over the course of the last year, additional information has become available about the reliability and availability of these two raw water supplies. The drought this summer emphasized the City’s vulnerability to receiving water under the current contracts. There two issues to be reviewed relate to the current supply contracts. The workshop will review the risk, mitigation options and strategies for managing water supplies in a significant drought similar to the one experienced this summer. The workshop will also cover the manner in which the City can expect to receive water for the surface water plant under the two existing contracts. |
