|
Executive Summary |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Fire Station #2 was constructed in
1986 and has undergone minor modifications since that time, but no major
renovation. In an effort to properly
maintain the expected life of facilities, the renovation of Fire Station #2 was
included in the 2010 Capital Improvement Program. Connors & Associates Architects was selected in November, 2009 to provide final design services, construction documents, assist the City in securing construction bids, and construction administration services that included a scope of renovating Fire Station #2. This service also included several meetings with Fire Administration staff, Fire Station #2 committee members from several shifts, and Support Services to review construction drawings and make changes as needed for final approval. The design and construction plans were finalized and submitted for bidding. The project includes the following
scope of work: ·
Demolition and
reconstruction of approximately 3,300 square feet of interior space ·
New interior walls,
finishes, updating mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems ·
New cabinets in
the dayroom, kitchen, bathroom, and dorms ·
Complete
flooring installation ·
New flooring, paint,
and ceiling in the EMS section ·
Individual
dorms and restrooms will be installed to resemble the construction at Fire
Stations #1 Watlee
Construction of Texas is the lowest, responsive, and responsible bidder
providing the best value to the City. Their references have been verified and
the company has recently completed work and received a favorable report on
the Economic Development build-out at City Hall. The following bid tab is provided:
Project completion is estimated at 90 days after start date. The Support Services Department recommends City Council award the contract for the renovation of Fire Station #2. Funding has been allocated within the facilities improvements CIP project MU1001 in the amount of $150,000 for this renovation, and the proposed low bid falls within the available funding. Temporary accommodations will be provided during construction to ensure service levels are not impacted. |
