Summary |
||||
|
First Colony and Austin Parkway water plants are the two largest water plants within the City’s water system. They are both approaching 30 years of age including the plants’ motor control equipment that starts and stops the high pressure booster pumps and on-site wells. Repair parts for some of the medium voltage equipment are not readily available other than through used surplus vendors. Replacement of all outdated equipment is necessary for the function of the plants and will ensure that future repairs will be completed expeditiously. The scope of the project includes designing for the removal and replacement of all motor control equipment, evaluating the incoming electrical services, and replacement of individual motor feeders as needed. A sequential construction plan will be used during the design to assure minimum down time of the facilities. The budget for the design phase is $75,000 and is available in CIP WA1005. Shrader Engineering’s design proposal of $59,300 is well within budget. Once the design phase is complete, construction is expected to begin this fall. It is recommended that the City Council authorize the execution of an engineering services contract with Shrader Engineering for design services of the Austin Parkway and First Colony Water Plant Motor Control Replacement in the maximum amount of $59,300.
