Recognize the Houston Museum of Natural Science – Sugar Land for their 2010 Landmark Awards.

Executive Summary

The Houston Business Journal selected the Houston Museum of Natural Science – Sugar Land for two 2010 Landmark Awards -- a distinction intended to recognize “commercial real estate projects and developments that make significant impressions on the Houston landscape.” The Houston Museum of Natural Science - Sugar Land received the awards in the categories of Public / Private Partnership and the Rehabilitation / Renovation Landmark.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science opened its Sugar Land location in 2009 as its first satellite museum. To make the project a reality, Newland Communities donated the 43,000-square-foot building, built in 1939, along with the 5.5 acre site to the City of Sugar Land. The City performed extensive site and building improvements utilizing $6 million from the Sugar Land 4B Corporation, then leased the building to the museum for $1 per year. The project preserved the Greek Revival-style exterior of the building while creating a modern interior.

Since 2001 Sugar Land Projects have won a total of 10 Landmark Awards, 4 of which were won in 2010.
