Review and discussion of the City’s Event Production Program. |

Executive Summary |
For the past several years, the Event Production Program has evolved into the leader in the City’s public events. The continued support from our City leaders and the community resulted in the opportunity to expand the program with additional and enhanced events. The transition of “BOO Bash” into “Halloween Town” provided a greater opportunity for our business community to partner with the City and participate in the event, approximately doubling the attendance to about 6,000.
The City is proud to have held its seventh annual Christmas Tree Lighting event in 2009. This regionally drawing event attracts approximately 10,000 to 15,000 attendees and provides an opportunity for our local community groups to showcase their talents. Since 1984, the City has held “Eggstravaganza”, our community “egg scramble”. With an average attendance of 6,000 to 8,000, staff continuously seeks opportunities to enhance events such as the addition of a “special needs” egg hunt where intellectually and/or physically challenged children have a unique and customized experience. The Spring Concert Series has finally found its home at Oyster Creek Park. This family event draws about 750 to 1,000 attendees for each concert and hundreds of family picnics over the course of the concert series! The City continues to improve this family event with items such as free face painting and additional entertainment segments between each bands’ breaks. In its 26th year, the City will once again host Fort Bend County’s largest fireworks display. With an average annual attendance of 20,000-25,000 attendees, this patriotic event has become a family tradition amongst our residents and their guests. The Parks and Recreation staff have updated the Parks Board on the Special Event enhancements throughout the year and will present a recap of the Event Production Program including highlights from this past year’s additions including the 50th Anniversary/New Year’s Eve Celebration, Cultural Kite Festival and Memorial Day Event for City Council’s information. |
