Summary |
||||
|
Public Works and Information Technology have been working on the installation of a Three Tier Wireless Communications Network. This network will involve wireless communications at all intersections with traffic lights. Information will be aggregated to radios and beamed to eight high sites in the City. One of the eight high sites proposed for this project was identified as the George Building located on the University of Houston Sugar Land campus. In November 2009, the University of Houston entered into an agreement to license the City a site for an antenna facility that was to be located on the George Building. However, upon completion of the construction of the Brazos Hall Building it was determined that this building was a more suitable location for the antenna facility. The University of Houston has agreed to amend its original agreement to allow the City to erect, construct, operate, maintain, repair and replace an antenna facility on the Brazos Hall Building for the purpose of supporting the City’s wireless communications. The term for the amended license remains the same; ten years with a mutually agreeable extension for an additional ten consecutive years. The City will reimburse the University of Houston System for all electrical services necessary to operate the City’s communications equipment on site. There is no fee for use of the location. Staff recommends that Council approve the First Amendment to License Agreement Between the University of Houston System and the City of Sugar Land. |
