Communication with residents ·
Education of residents on the propositions ·
Use of Charter Review Commission or Citizen Committee
for communication to residents on propositions and facts ·
Use of a speaker’s bureau to get information out Options for May

16, 2010 Recommended date for ordering May 08, 2010 Charter Election March 08, 2010 Statutory last day for ordering May 08,
2010 election Options for November
02, 2010 Charter election (Uniform Date and Texas Gubernatorial Election): August
17, 2010 Recommended date for ordering November 02, 2010 Charter
election August
24, 2010 Statutory last day for ordering November 02, 2010 Charter
election The May 08, 2010 general election is for the purpose of electing a
mayor and council members at large.
The filing deadline for placement on the ballot is March 8th
and for declaration of write-in candidacy is March 15th. The statutory last day for ordering the May 2010 election is Monday,
March 8th with delivery of the election notice to the Elections
Administrator, Fort Bend County and submission to the U. S. Justice
Department for election pre clearance; 60 days from receipt of submission
is required. From this date
forward the election code prescribes specific dates and deadlines for
performance of necessary major actions that must be performed in relation to
the election. In an at large election where all positions are unopposed and there are no propositions to appear on the ballot the Texas Election Code authorizes the governing body to declare each candidate elected to office and to cancel the election. If a decision is made to go forward with a Charter amendment election May 2010, related propositions on the ballot will negate cancellation.
