The City’s Economic Development Department was created in 1999. The program has resulted in a number of notable projects and successes for the City These successes have led to recognitions such as second in the nation for future job growth from 2005 to 2010 as well as the Community Economic Development Award from the State for the City’s overall economic development program. This report will provide an overview of 2009 accomplishments and their impacts as well as measure the City’s key indicators with county, region, state and national statistics. An analysis of employment growth, occupation breakdown and how those trends are following the City’s economic development objectives will be discussed. Additionally, this overview will highlight the economic condition of the City by reviewing our tax base diversification, land use mix, and office market analysis providing insight on the City’s economic market condition. The 2009 Annual Report will provide an overall assessment on the future health of our economy by analyzing shifts in the market and the emergence of new trends and what that means to Sugar Land’s future as a destination for entertainment, retail and employment. Finally, the national economic outlook will highlight potential local impact for Sugar Land in today’s current economic environment. |
