Executive Summary |
The primary goal of the City’s Intelligent Transportation System 5-year Operations Plan was to identify a series of improvement projects to address the transportation-related functional requirements for the City of Sugar Land. The plan works toward providing advanced transportation management system improvements throughout the City. One such proposed improvement is to address issues related to citywide traffic signal timing coordination and railroad preemption. The recent completion of the US 90A construction requires that the signal timing be updated to handle current conditions. There are over 30+ trains on any given day utilizing these tracks causing delay to the side-street traffic. To minimize delay along the US 90A corridor, advanced railroad preemption needs to be developed to allow the clearance of side-street vehicles in advance of the train arrival. The scope of services consists of the development and implementation of optimized signal timing plans for the following ten (10) signalized intersections:
Also, included in these services are the development and implementation of advanced railroad preemption and side-street track clearance in advance of train arrival for the above mentioned locations. Through the consultant pre-selection process that was conducted earlier this year for roadway and drainage projects, the Public Works Department selected Klotz Associates Incorporated. The Public Works Department is requesting that the City Council authorize the execution of a professional contract with Klotz Associates Incorporated for traffic signal optimization and Railroad preemption for CIP (TR0901) in an amount not to exceed $111,930.00. |
