Executive Summary

In FY08, the City began a strategic project titled “Intra-City Transportation System”.  The project purpose is to investigate the feasibility of a transit circulator for the Town Center area.  Pursuant to the project, the City entered into an agreement with Fort Bend County to share the 20% local funding match for a federally funded study of a Town Center transit circulator.  The City contributed $10,000 toward this study, which has been performed by the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI).

The study is nearly complete, and it is time to update City Council on the results.  Ms. Linda Cherrington served as principal investigator for the project and will present the bulk of the update.  Ms. Cherrington is the Manager for the Transit Mobility Program at Texas Transportation Institute and has 34 years professional experience in transit planning, operations and research.

The presentation will review a number of issues, including:

  • Public attitudes towards transit in Sugar Land, as determined by surveys
  • Types of transit circulator services and vehicles
  • Use of transit circulators in peer cities
  • Concept proposals for routes, frequency of service, available times, and fares
  • Costs
  • Funding opportunities and challenges

This presentation is the next in a series of workshops regarding transportation issues affecting the City of Sugar Land.  The purpose of these workshops is to convey the breadth and potential impacts of these issues in preparation for strategic planning discussions in early 2009.
