Executive Summary |
||||
|
In the FY07/08 approved budget, 46 pieces of rolling stock were approved. The purpose of this item is to approve the purchase of 42 vehicles which includes all Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, Toyota, Bomag, Kubota, and Peterbuilt items. This request includes 17 replacements and 25 new vehicles. The City utilizes a fleet replacement program that systematically moves aging vehicles out of the fleet at the appropriate time. Well-analyzed replacement criteria and actual inspections by fleet technicians and managers are factors used before actual replacements are authorized. Vehicles that are new to fleet are typically budgeted with new positions. Delivery times vary by vehicle, but are not anticipated to exceed 120 days except for the Crown Victoria Police Interceptors and the Peterbuilt 340 Dump Truck. Eighteen (18) vehicles will be purchased from Helfman Ford via the interlocal agreement with Fort Bend County. Included in the purchase are ten Crown Victoria Interceptors. These interceptors will include the fire suppression system installed by Ford and will have a 5-6 month delivery time. Five of the interceptors are replacement vehicles. Other vehicles being purchased from Helfman include two Ford Explorers, five trucks and one sedan. Nine (9) vehicles are to be purchased via the HGAC cooperative purchasing contract from Philpott Motors. These include five trucks and four sedans. Two (2) replacement Dodge Chargers will be purchased from Planet Dodge via the Buy Board contract. One Dodge Charger with a Police Package is being acquired via the HGAC contract. The remaining pieces of equipment are also being purchased through the HGAC contract and include a steel roller, a dump truck, and an all-terrain vehicle for Public Works. The majority of the remaining items must be formally bid as there is not a cooperative purchasing agreement available that carries these items and meets City specifications. The remaining four (4) new and replacement vehicles include two motorcycles and two airport tugs. These items will be brought to council as soon as feasible.
