Executive
Summary |
||||
|
The City has authorized and successfully completed annual contracts with Keep Sugar Land Beautiful (KSLB) since 1999. The contract is based on a per capita basis with a specific list of services including: Don’t Mess With Texas Trash-Off, Pollution Prevention Week Event, promotion of the City’s stormwater and recycling programs, public education on various environmental issues, and management of the Adopt-A-Spot program. In addition, KSLB provides volunteer support for City functions such as Water Week/H20 EXPO, Electronics Recycling, and Christmas Tree Recycling. The
cost for this year, $0.76 per capita, remains the same; there is an $1,894
increase in the contract amount due to the increase in the City’s population
which is a three percent increase in contract value which was included during
the budget process. For 2006, KSLB reported a return of $2.76 per City
contract dollar. In 2007, preliminary
results suggest even a larger cost benefit for each City contract dollar
spent. KSLB has a separate lease agreement with the City for rental of office space at 119 Brooks Street at a cost of $1.00 per year. This contract automatically renews each year. The office, including electric, water, wastewater and office furniture, conservatively equates to approximately $9,000 a year. The Public Works Department recommends City Council authorize the annual agreement with KSLB in an amount not to exceed $60,252. Funding is available in account no. 059-5010-550-33-01. |
