Recommended Action

Consideration and approval of a purchase contract for Metro Fire Apparatus, through HGAC for the purchase of one new engine and associated equipment in the amount of $623,300.

Executive Summary

The City of Sugar Land has adopted a replacement schedule for its fire apparatus at ten years front-line service and five years in reserve. The purchase of a replacement fire engine was budgeted and planned for in fiscal year 2008. Upon delivery of the new unit, the unit being replaced will be moved to reserve status.  The associated equipment purchased with the replacement unit will replace unserviceable reserve equipment or equipment not available on the existing unit.

Fire engines currently have a nine to twelve month lead-time between placing of the order and delivery of the unit.  During the initial specification process of this apparatus there have been two price increases; however the manufacturer and dealer have secured the original pricing for the immediate purchase of this unit.

The City will be purchasing a Custom Class "A" Spartan/Crimson fire engine.  This is a pumper truck with similar specifications to previous purchases along with consideration for the vehicle it is replacing.

The expenditure and funding is detailed below:
