Recommended Action

 

Present proclamation to students and teachers (42) of the German-American Partnership program.

Exhibits

 

Whereas,        the German American Partnership Program (GAPP), funded by the United States and German governments and administered by the Goethe-Institute of New York, is a high school exchange program linking an American and a German high school over an extended period; and

 

Whereas,        international education increases student knowledge and awareness of world’s cultures and languages, and brings an international perspective into the classroom; and

 

Whereas,        the members of host families and host schools find an enriched quality of life and understanding of other nations, and the International Students experience an enrichment and understanding of life in the United States of America and in our communities; and

 

Whereas,        March 18 – April 4, 2008, students from Lessing-Gymnasium in Cologne will attend Clements High School and on June 7 – July 10, 2008, students from Clements High School will attend school in Cologne, and travel to Heidelberg, Berlin, Potsdam, Bamberg, Ruegen, and Munich; and

                                                                                   

Whereas,        as a community of many different cultures, languages and traditions, appreciation is extended to the area coordinators and host families for the support, resources and programs;

 

Now, Therefore, I, David Wallace, on behalf of the members of City Council, and by the virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Sugar Land, Texas, do hereby recognize the German-American Partnership Program at Clements High School and encourage citizens to join in recognizing the valuable contribution of cultural diversity within our community.
