Whereas, the German American Partnership Program
(GAPP), funded by the United States and German governments and administered by
the Goethe-Institute of New York, is a high school exchange program linking an
American and a German high school over an extended period; and
Whereas, international education increases student knowledge and awareness of world’s cultures and languages, and brings an international perspective into the classroom; and
Whereas, the members of host families and host schools find an enriched quality
of life and understanding of other nations, and the International Students
experience an enrichment and understanding of life in the United States of
America and in our communities; and
Whereas, March 18 – April 4, 2008, students from Lessing-Gymnasium in Cologne will attend Clements High School and on June 7 – July 10, 2008, students from Clements High School will attend school in Cologne, and travel to Heidelberg, Berlin, Potsdam, Bamberg, Ruegen, and Munich; and
Whereas, as a community of many different cultures, languages and
traditions, appreciation is extended
to the area coordinators and host families for the support, resources and programs;
Now, Therefore, I,
David Wallace, on behalf of the members of City Council, and by the virtue of
the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Sugar Land, Texas, do hereby
recognize the German-American Partnership Program at Clements High School and encourage citizens to join in
recognizing the valuable contribution of cultural diversity within our
community.
