Executive Summary |
||||
|
On Thursday, March 13, 2008, the City of Sugar Land
received five sealed bids for the purchase of two (2) six-inch trailer
mounted, self-priming pumps. These
pumps were approved in the Utilities 2007-2008 Operating budget and will be
utilized primarily for emergency response to wastewater lift station
failures. They will be an integral part of the Department’s hurricane and
emergency response plan. The City has
101 lift stations that convey wastewater throughout the City to the
wastewater treatment plants. Occasionally due to severe weather (lightning,
and/or extended power outages), it becomes necessary to provide an alternate
means of pumping wastewater to the treatment plant to prevent wastewater
overflows and large scale environmental over-flows. It requires six (6) six-inch trailer
mounted pumps on a rotating schedule to operate all of our lift stations
during a city-wide electrical outage. We can rent additional pumps when
necessary but due to the scarcity of this size pump and the long lead time
for delivery we need two pumps on hand to manage the major collector lift
stations to assure we do not have any system backups into homes and
businesses. The pumps can also be used
to clear drainage problems. The apparent low bidder was Godwin Pumps of America, Inc., which will be supplying the trailer-mounted pumps. Staff has checked their local references and received nothing but positive responses to the quality of the equipment and service after the sale. The Godwin pump we received bids for meets all specifications and has an excellent performance record in the utility industry. Funding is available in account 050-5012-550-60-01 in the amount of $46,100. |
