Executive Summary |

|
The Parks Department is working with various groups to continue efforts to enhance our Parks Systems through the planting of trees. Staff recommends recognizing these efforts and promoting even more interest. Sixteen 5-gallon red and live oaks were planted in Lost Creek Park by a group of Boy Scouts lead by Kush Parikh, Troop 1116, as part of his Eagle Scout project. On Saturday, December 1st, Kush and a group of fifteen boys spent the morning planting the trees and also picking up litter in Oyster Creek and Lost Creek Parks. The trees were donated by Tree Town USA. Seeking the Cub Scout World Conservation Award, Cub Scout Pack 616 planted 30 trees at Sugar Land Memorial Park as part of the ongoing reforestation efforts in the park. On Saturday, December 15th, 30 Cub Scouts and their parents came to help plant the trees. The trees were 3-gallon and were a mix of native trees donated by Chevron. The City and KSLB will hold the second annual tree planting event at Sugar Land Memorial Park on Saturday, January 26th and will plant 10,000 native tree seedlings donated to KSLB by the Apache Foundation. Planting will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until all of the trees are in the ground. Free seedlings will be given out and proper tree care techniques and tree trimming education will be provided at the event. |
