DIRECTOR’S
REPORT FOR MONTH OF
OCTOBER 2006
·
Hike and
Bike Task Force has met twice to provide input on key destination points and
proposed on and off street routes.
·
Brazos
River Park lake is full after the October rainy season.
·
Brazos River Park Corridor naming recommendations presented to
Council.
·
Senior Center renovations and expansion is ongoing and on
schedule.
· Leisure class enrollment for October totals: Bridge (340 participants), Tai Chi (15 participants), Tennis Lessons (76 participants), Ballet/Flamenco (28 participants), Karate (55 participants), and Jazzercise (672 participants).
· Senior attendance for October was 1,129.
· Senior Sweet Notes publication was mailed out to 1,781 individuals in October.
· Senior renovations began on October 5th. Construction will take 56 days from start to finish.
· Senior trip to Delta Downs for October 6th was cancelled due to lack of interest.
· Senior trip to Ghost Tours was held on 18th and had 11 participants.
· Senior trip to Ghost Tours was held on 27th and had 8 participants.
· Senior Monster Mash was held at the Sugar Land Community Center on October 31st and had 80 participants.
·
The Boo Bash was held
at the Sugar Land Community Center on October 28th from 5 p.m. to 9
p.m. and had 6,500 participants.

On
October 7th the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council held their 2nd
Annual “Think Tank” session at the LYF Center.
At this time, the group detailed their agenda for the year.
·
The
monthly Saturday Night LYF Program was held on Saturday, October 7th.
· October Community/Conference Centers Report: 71 non-profit functions with 175 hours, 54 private functions with 201 hours, 236 City sponsored functions with 791 hours, 361 total building reservations with 1167 total hours.
· October Pavilion Report: 18 private pavilion rentals with 80 hours, 1 City sponsored function with 1 hours, and 19 total pavilion rentals with 81 total hours.

Safety
Meeting Topic – Personal Protection Equipment.
·
Assisted
with ground breaking at Brazos Park.
·
Replaced
ceiling tiles and painted interior of the First Colony Community Center.
·
Performed
major clean up of all parks after heavy rains.
·
Assisted
staff with removal of items needing storage from the City Hall Annex.

nominated country music group Sugarland will perform at SLTS on November 1st
event starts at 6 p.m.

Board parks tour November 4th.

Teen
Stock Music Festival at SLTS on November 4th.

Night “LYF” will be held on November 11th event hours 7 p.m. – 11
p.m.
· Senior trip to San Marcos will be held on November 15th.
· Senior trip to Cheese Adventure Tour will be held on November 29th.
· Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will be held at SLTS on November 30th event starts at 5 p.m.
· Share Your Holiday Food Drive will be held at the Sugar Land Community Center on December 6th.
· Senior trip to Old Town Spring will be held on December 8th.
· Senior Holiday Gala will be held at the Sugar Land Community Center on December 14th from 12 noon – 3 p.m.
· Senior trip to Kemah will be held on December 15th.
