Recommended Action

 

Recognize Ms. Anuradha Subramanian for her accomplishments, dedication, inspiration and stamina, as she reminds us that age is just a number and that life is what you make of it; one can achieve great things without succumbing to age as a barrier.

Whereas, Kuchipudi is a classical combination of dance, gestures, speech, and song known for its graceful movement and its strong narrative and dramatic character requiring a Kuchipudi dancer to be well versed in dancing, acting, and music; and

 

Whereas, music and dance have played a major role in Anuradha Subramanian’s life since beginning dance at age three, debuting with a recital in Natyam at ten, trained in vocal music by her mother, receiving the President’s gold medal in the All India Radio music competition, being well versed in Latin dances and belly dancing and continuing a life-long interest in all forms of dance; and

 

Whereas, on September 2, 2006, Anuradha presented a rigorous and intricate solo dance recital in Kuchipudi, presenting stories through music and dance in an eighty minute full performance; and

 

Whereas, Anuradha achieved this momentous accomplishment at age 59, a feat usually performed by teenage girls, and has submitted recognition for the title of “oldest Kuchipudi dancer” to Guinness World Record.  

 

Now, Therefore, I, David Wallace, on behalf of the members of City Council, and by the virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Sugar Land, Texas, do hereby recognize Anuradha Subramanian for her accomplishments, dedication, inspiration and stamina, as she reminds us that age is just a number and life is what you make of it; one can achieve great things without succumbing to age as a barrier.
