Staff recommends City Council authorize expenditure not to exceed $50,000 for on-call services for the 2006-2007 Concrete Street Raising Services Contract via the Fort bend County inter-local agreement at the unit prices bid by Uretek USA for a period of one year.

Executive Summary

The Public Works Department recommends the City utilize Fort Bend County’s bid process and our Inter-Local Agreement to perform our 2006-2007 annual on-call Concrete Pavement Raising Program. Annually, Fort Bend County solicits bids for various services and materials for use in the maintenance of their infrastructure. Through the City’s inter-local agreement with the County, the Public Works Department has procured materials and services via the County’s various unit price contracts for several years now. This agreement allows municipal entities to purchase materials and use contractors, who have been through the County’s bid process, at the bid unit costs.

We have reviewed the Fort Bend County bid and found Uretek’s prices to be competitive and a good value for the City. We have utilized Uretek in the past for the foam lifting and street repairs. They have proven to be a competent contractor and have always exceeded specifications.

The scope of this on-call agreement is to provide concrete street raising services for streets that are structurally sound but have experienced settlement. In turn, the settlement causes the creation of “bird baths” or standing water in the gutter line of affected streets.  This procedure has been successful in raising the concrete to eliminate these problems. Funding for the Concrete Pavement Raising Program is available in the Public Works Department budget, program 141001, account no. 010-1410-514-41-80 in the amount of $50,000.00.
