Council Member Donald L. Smithers
Donald L. Smithers was elected in May 2009, to Single Member District One for a two-year term; and May 2011 elected for a second two year term. Previously, he served as a Sugar Land Councilman from 1997 to 2003 during which time he served as Mayor Pro Tem for three years.
Don and his wife Merle have lived in Covington Woods since 1976. They have four children, Nancy, Donna, Joyce and Gene and 4 grandchildren.
Don is a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from May 1954 to December 1957. He retired from the Texas Air National Guard as Chief Master Sergeant in January 1992.
Don retired from Southwestern Bell as Manager-Engineering Design in 1991, and worked for Cobb Fendley & Associates for 11 years.
